En juin 2012, le premier album solo instrumental de Mike Dawes voit le jour à travers le label américain « CandyRat Records ». L’incroyable arrangement du succès de Gotye « Someobody That I Used to Know » devient virale sur le net et compte plus d’1,5 millions de clics en une semaine ! La vidéo se retrouve sur des centaines de blogs influents, et même sur la page principale du site américain « MSN NEWS ». Pendant ce temps, Gotye ne cesse de vanter le talent de Mike, et considère même son arrangement comme la meilleure reprise de cette chanson qu’il ait entendu, l’invitant à se joindre à lui pour une cession studio en Australie.
Depuis, Mike passe sa vie entre son studio et les avions, parcourant le monde entier pour y interpréter ses titres, dans des salles de plus en plus grandes et devant un public déjà conquis.
